Why should you E-file? Better yet, why not?

During the past few years, the IRS has been encouraging taxpayers to e-file their taxes, but this year, its urging and persistence is stronger than ever. The IRS offers many reasons to file electronically, and most directly benefit you:

  1. Electronic filing is safe and convenient. The IRS requires providers of e-file services to use several layers of encryption to ensure your return is secure.  Plus, if you provide an e-mail address to the IRS, you’ll receive a confirmation within 48 hours that your return was accepted.
  2. E-filing your return means you’ll receive your refund quicker, especially if you opt for direct deposit.
  3. If you owe taxes, you can arrange to pay by direct debit on or before the deadline, or you can mail a check to the IRS. So you choose which payment method is best for you.
  4. The IRS requires most professional providers of tax services to E-file returns whenever possible.
