Tax Season Reminder: Renew Your IP PIN

Last year, our tax accounting team told you Florida, Georgia and the District of Columbia started an IP PIN program (www.CPAsite.com/florida-to-pilot-irs-identity-protection-program). If you signed up for this extra level of individual income tax return protection—or were required to participate in the program because you were an identity theft victim—the IRS will send you a new PIN number soon.Look for your CP01A notice to arrive during the latter part of February. Store this information carefully, and remember to share it with your tax firm. The IRS distributes new numbers each year to maintain your security. You must use your new IP PIN to file your 2014 individual tax return; last year’s number won’t work.Ready to file your return already? Speed up the process by retrieving your 2015 IP PIN from www.IRS.gov/getanippin. You’ll need your previously established account information. If you can’t access your application, contact the Identity Protection Specialized Unit at 1-800-908-4490 to receive a replacement IP PIN. A word of caution, though: this route will delay your tax return processing. To Patrick & Robinson CPAs, being your accounting firm means your identity security is paramount. It’s why we upgraded CPAsite.com to the highest level of encryption available. If we can help with your tax service, or other planning needs, contact us at Office@CPAsite.com or 904-396-5400.
