Need a reminder to file your taxes?
The IRS wants you to pay your taxes on time and provides ways to remind you of upcoming deadlines so you don’t incur late fees and penalties. These tools can also aid in your overall financial planning. An online calendar is available, which you can view in English or Spanish. Select “General” if you’re not an employer or someone with a need for detail about monthly or semi-weekly deposits. Business owners or managers can also find additional information related to their tax returns or events in their state by clicking the drop-down arrow.Of course, you may forget to check the online version, so how about a computer desktop calendar tool to augment your tax and budget planning? The IRS provides a CalendarConnector to view without going to its site. This program automatically updates, so you’ll always see the latest tax information. Again, you can filter this information to avoid long lists of dates and deadlines that may not be relevant to your situation. If you use Outlook 2007 or 2010—or Mac iCal—you can subscribe or download events to your existing web calendar:
- Subscribing adds web calendar data to your program, which updates automatically. The downside, though, is you can’t edit this data manually if you receive too much detail.
- Downloading takes a picture of the events to add to your calendar. You can edit this data, but the IRS won’t automatically update it.
