It’s Over! Sort of…
Phew! Our country’s 100th “Tax Season” just ended…at least that’s what popular media would have you believe. And in fact, tax preparers around the country are taking a breath as the craziness of the first few calendar months now passes. But for many, tax season is far from over. The tax code became so cumbersome and complicated over these past 100 years that three and half months isn’t enough time for many taxpayers to prepare their returns—they need another six months and filed the automatic extension to Oct. 15.Almost the whole year to file last year’s returns?! We don’t think that time-consuming burden was envisioned when the income tax was established…but that topic requires another (several) blogs. In the meantime, if we helped you already file, thank you for trusting us with your returns and tax planning. We enjoyed seeing you during the first quarter, and look forward to working with you again throughout the year as your circumstances—or the tax laws— change. We’re available for the full range of tax, estate and succession planning, so if you’re not sure where to turn for a particular issue, turn here. For almost 32 years, we’ve served as our clients’ financial quarterback. If you did file an extension, six months seems to be a long time, but “Tax Day II” will be here before you know it. Please bring us your tax information as early as possible so we can give your return the attention it deserves (which may mean a bigger refund) and you can avoid the last-minute crunch.Let’s face it: taxes are one big headache.
